Cyan Racing and Yann Ehrlacher crowned World Champions with Lynk & Co

2020/11/15

Cyan Racing claimed its fourth consecutive World Title as Yann Ehrlacher was crowned World Champion in a thrilling WTCR season finale at MotorLand Aragón.

The result makes it a total of three World Titles in motorsport for Lynk & Co, the first-ever racing World Titles for a Chinese manufacturer.

"Everyone in the team has worked so hard for this and I'm incredibly proud that we have managed to claim a total of six World Titles during four consecutive years. After claiming our first World Title with Lynk & Co last year, we set out to claim two World Titles this year and we can once again say 'mission complete'," said Christian Dahl, owner and founder of Cyan Racing.

"Congratulations to Cyan Racing and Yann Ehrlacher. The double title really demonstrates the capabilities of the team and its drivers, especially during the pandemic," said Victor Yang, Vice President of Geely Auto Group.

Yann Ehrlacher has headed the drivers' championship from the first race weekend to the last. The 24-year-old became the youngest WTCR champion ever after scoring three wins and a total of six podium finishes during the 2020 season.

"It's just insane. This is the best day of my life. I can't believe what just happened. I'm so proud and happy over what we have achieved, I am forever grateful to everyone in the team that have fought like crazy during a crazy season," said Yann Ehrlacher.

Team Cyan Racing Lynk & Co claimed the teams' World Title with a 98-point margin to Honda team Münnich Motorsport. The title makes it six World Titles for Cyan Racing since 2017.

"Six World Titles in four years. This is beyond words. I am so proud of every last man and woman in the team, they have worked so hard under extraordinary circumstances. This is definitely the best day in the history so far of our team," said Fredrik Wahlén, CEO of Cyan Racing.

”We are very happy with the performance of the Lynk & Co 03 TCR race car in the hands of Cyan Racing. The team has done an amazing job, not only standing on top in the end, but leading both championships from the first to the last race in a season where the best teams and drivers are constantly separated only by a few thousands of a second,” said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Geely Group Motorsport.

Yvan Muller won the penultimate race of the year and managed to make it a 1-2 in the drivers' championship with Yann Ehrlacher.

"To be first and second in the championship with my nephew is fantastic. I am very proud of this. I had Yann on my shoulder when he was young and now we are 1-2 in the World Touring Car Cup, just amazing," said Yvan Muller.

Santiago Urrutia claimed his maiden WTCR win for the team in the last race of the year after an impressive qualifying session yesterday where he secured two pole positions.

"To end the season with my first win and two World Titles really makes this a perfect year. A big thank you to Cyan Racing that they believed in me and I will be forever grateful that they gave me this chance," said Santiago Urrutia.

Thed Björk fought hard in the season finale to finish ninth overall with one win and a total of three podium finishes from this year.

"I hoped for a podium in the last race, unfortunately it wasn't possible. But we secured two World Titles together as a team and I am very happy to be a part of that," said Thed Björk.
